Ya know, it's kinda funny...
December 5, 2007

A lot of people, including myself, answer the question, "Which Patriots player do you miss the most?", and say Adam Vinatieri. It's true that Adam was the king when he was here. No clutch kicker was ever better and, inasmuchas I love the hell outta Stephen Gostkowski, no one will ever BE better than Adam. I mean let's face it: the Snow Bowl against Oakland in '02, the Super Bowl winnahs in XXXVI and XXXVIII, and every close game that's been decided by his foot. I mean, I remember reading an article that was comparing (as usual) Tom Brady to Joe Montana. When it talked about favorite targets, it listed Jerry Rice for Montana's (DUH!); and it listed field goal range for Adam Vinatieri for Brady. And, if you think about it, while Adam was here, it was true! However, it's kinda funny now looking at Adam with the Colts and realizing how horrible he's performed since he left the Patriots. It's almost as if he was jinxed when he turned down the offers to stay and decided to play with the Village People of the NFL. But then again, when you think about it, what if Adam stayed and had that groin injury with us? Then he'd be missing field goals left and right and people would WANT him gone. It's almost as if Bill knows something the rest of us don't. I'm almost tempted to change my answer to, "I don't miss anyone because I trust the management is doing what's smart for the team." Because let's face it, it's true! Everyone that's not here is not here for a reason and only Bill and Scott Pioli know what those reasons are. But then again, I won't change my answers because I loved all those guys when they were here and I always will. Why? Because the Patriots are a family. Hopefully we'll see them with the Patriots Alumni Club. Imagine, walking into Gillette Stadium for the latest Game With the Greats and seeing Drew and Willie and Adam and Lawyer and Ty and all those guys. It would be great for two reasons: 1) the opportunity to meet them; and 2) they would be part of the family again. So let's hope everyone we miss comes full circle and they decide to be part of the family again.

Adam leaving was his choice not the Pats. It was also about more than money (probably could have made more money in New England). He left because he was pissed that the Pat's "franchised" him and then made no effort to sign him to a contract. At the end of the season, he fired his agent and signed a deal with Indy, never gave the Pats a chance to match the offer. He wanted out of New England and out of the Pats orginization. he figured Indy was a good fit, they were contenders and he could kick indoors for half the games. As good as he was, he was only a kicker. He was a hero here in New England and he gave that up because he was angry with the Pats. Do I miss him? Sure, but the player I miss most would have to be Ben Coats. ...View More

Yeah, I agree whole heartedly. What did Bledsoe do after leaving? Glenn? Law? Milloy?and a laundry list of others. To include Wiess.(I hate to say)The last I heard, all he could do was flaunt his rings around and talk about hot great everything was, incinuating because of him.
