Week 2 - Pats at Jets
September 14, 2008
Let's look back to 2001 when Tom became the starter under similar circumstances. His first game as a starter he was 13 of 23 for 168 yards. His second start he was 12 of 24 for 86 yards. Even though we have better receivers this year, don't expect Cassel to attempt 40 passes today. The passes he does throw will probably be short - quick slants to Welker and screen passes to Faulk and Maroney.
Establishing the running game could be difficult. Not only have Jets improved their defensive line, but they are most likely going to concentrate on stopping our running game and force Cassel to throw the ball. And why wouldn't they? This is Cassel's first start since high school and he definitely didn't scare anyone with his performance in preseason.
I don't think this one will be pretty, but I think we'll be fired up this week and will do enough to win a low scoring game.
